Student Athlete Spotlight: Ray Brodie III, IU Bloomington Track

Q: Tell us about yourself

A: I’m from Evansville, Indiana, and I’m a redshirt freshman on the track team. I became passionate about track senior year of high school as I always liked being the fastest and enjoyed the thrill of running by people!

Q: How did you get connected to Bloomington? What do you love about living here?

A: I got connected to Bloomington when the Head Track and Field Coach, Ed Bethea, reached out to me at the state meet in 2022, and after my official visit knew I wanted to train and compete here for the next 4 years. One thing I enjoy about Bloomington is how many things there is to do here in the city.

Q: What’s your major? What are your goals for the future?

A: My major is Sports Marketing, and if I’m not playing sports I always want to still be connected to sports. My goals in the future are to win Big Tens and compete at Nationals. And to always try and stay healthy throughout the long track season.

Q: When did you start going to Vibe?

A: I started going to Vibe last year in the fall when I learned about how it could help me recover better.

Q: How has Vibe helped you in your physicality?

A: Vibe has helped me with my physicality by helping me do stretches that I’m not normally comfortable with on my own. The instructors at Vibe really help me with doing stretches and getting better at them each time I go. It has helped me in my sport by releasing tensions in my lower body that are tight and compressed. I have brought most of my friends on the track team to Vibe and they have all said going into it they were nervous because of the heat. After leaving said their mind were relaxed and they want to go back again.

Q: Which classes do you typically take at Vibe?

A: I typically do the Hot Flow, and I have asthma, in which the breathing techniques at Vibe help me slow down my breathing when I’m at track practice. Also doing stretches in 100 degrees heat at yoga makes the conditioning at practice more manageable. I would 100% recommend going to Vibe if you’re experiencing mental/physical problems just because it helps you relax, and your mind shuts off for 60 minutes. After you get done you will feel better about your day and maybe will want to get more things done.
