Self-Care Saturday: Wellness Retreat with Slow Flow Yoga and Art [Virtual through the EMA]SAT Date: 10/24/2020 - 10/24/2020 From: 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Join us to find your center through yoga, meditation, art making, self-exploration, and journaling.
We’ll explore the concepts of:
- how to tap into an ever-present power to reconnect, reground, re-center
- identifying a new normal amidst the pandemic
- the ongoing need for routines to change to enable personal growth
- identifying what factors enable oneself to thrive, or in yoga we’d say be “in flow”
- updating routines so we can grow and thrive.
Have you ever considered what is normal to you? Sometimes normal can be another word for stuck. How might changing and adapting routines enable personal growth? How might a shift in mindset help free you to move forward in a positive way rather than constantly going back to a prior “normal”?
This workshop, a two-hour exploration of personal wellbeing through mindful movement, breath, reflection, and art making, is facilitated by Taryn Kintanar (Vibe Yoga Studio) and Lauren Daugherty (Eskenazi Museum of Art).
Participants bring a yoga mat, towel, water, an old book to repurpose as an art journal or some paper, as well as some art supplies. Some example supplies are colored pencils, paper, magazines for collage, a glue stick, and scissors, but bring any and all art materials you may like to use.
Taryn Kintanar is the Studio Manager at Vibe Yoga Studio and has been practicing yoga for 11 years. She continues to come back to practice for its power to center her.
Lauren Daugherty is an art therapist and Arts-based Wellness Experiences Manager at the Eskenazi Museum of Art, where she provides art therapy groups, individual art therapy sessions, and wellness experiences.
This event is free. Space is limited. MUST RSVP ON THE EMA'S WEBSITE TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT. A Zoom link will be provided to participants.
Can't make today's event? We'll be partnering on another one on Saturday, November 14th 9-11am.

Trauma Sensitive TrainingFRI Date: 10/30/2020 - 10/30/2020 From: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
eMBER (Mindfulness-based Emotional Resilience) is a twelve-week resilience training program geared toward folx who are rebuilding their lives after trauma. In this 2-weekend workshop, eMBER co-founder Michele Vinbury offers an introduction to the curriculum, which has been implemented in prisons, hospitals, and organizations responding to substance abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking and eating disorders. She will draw on her long experience of working with and teaching traumatized populations to discuss the psychology of trauma and the principles of trauma-sensitive yoga.
In this training you will experience:
Instruction in specific asana, pranayama and meditation practices that have been proven effective with people recovering from traumatic experiences.
Exploration of student-teacher dynamics, including issues of transference, boundaries, and the importance of teacher self-care.
How to get started: practical strategies for establishing classes in prisons, therapeutic communities, hospitals, detention centers, and rehabilitation facilities.
An exploration of portions of eMBER’s evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive methodology. (This is not an eMBER Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher Certification Training - we offer that in a 9-mo 100hr format.)
An exploration of the dynamics of creating “safe” or “brave” space for practice in institutional and studio settings.
Discussion of polyvagal theory as it relates to trauma.
An experience of two eMBER classes taught by Michele.
A trauma sensitive class with commentary and considerations geared towards men in prison taught by Adam Wetterhan of Healing Broken Circles.
A trauma sensitive class with commentary and considerations focused on teaching teens with opioid addictions taught by Brittny Manos.

“eMBER training combined the most recent trauma research, historical perspectives, and first-person narratives to give a full picture of how to best to consider teaching populations who have experienced trauma, all while making no one a victim, no imposed ideas of “us/them” or “broken/fixer”. Thank you for this.” – eMBER Trauma Sensitive Teacher Trainee
“I’m really grateful for the weekend, because it took me out of my mind and into my body and eventually allowed me to connect the two back to each other again. ” – weekend TT

Michele Vinbury Bio
As a business owner (www.yogaonhigh.com), mentor, trauma and resilience educator, and teacher trainer, Michele Vinbury offers local, regional, international and online trainings and retreats.
In 2014, Michele co-authored a 12-week Trauma Sensitive Resilience course (www.emberyoga.org). The eMBER™ (Mindfulness Based Emotional Resilience) curriculum is founded on evidence-based practices and was the focus of a 2016 study at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. Results from this study found that the eMBER group demonstrated positive improvement across all three measures (warnings of relapse, body disassociation and difficulties in emotion regulation), as compared to the other groups. Current research is underway at a local hospital to measure the efficacy of the curriculum with opioid addicted youth.
Michele’s teaching draws on over 20 years of direct-contact volunteer service with domestic violence, sexual assault, suicide prevention and human trafficking agencies. She has specialized training in trauma sensitive yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness practices, and calls on her own experiences of healing from trauma in order to teach from a place of embodied knowledge.
Michele isa dynamic, playful and interactive teacher who builds connections and community with her students through knowledge of the practices and a lighthearted sense of humor. Central to her teaching is her ability to meet each student right where they are and to teach from a place that is neither wanting to fix or change them.
Michele is a registered E-500 yoga teacher, certified iRest Yoga Nidra Teacher (www.irest.org) and registered yoga therapist through IAYT. Michele was honored to receive SARNCO’s (Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio) Community Supporter Award for her efforts to support survivors and to end sexual violence. She attended the University of Rhode Island and Salisbury University graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Philosophy.
Michele grew up in coastal New England and now resides in Ohio with her husband, two children and dog, Captain Haven Stardust (aka “Dusty”).
