Spinal Tune Up

SUN Date: 08/27/2017 - 08/27/2017 From: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

For thousands of years, yogis have placed great importance on the
health and protection of the spine. In addition to keeping us erect
and helping us move efficiently, a healthy back plays a pivotal role in
our physical, neurological, and mental health.

Many experience less pain and improved mobility after practicing
yoga, which may naturally result from increased awareness of optimal
alignment, strengthening, and releasing of muscles during practice.
Unfortunately, we are creatures of habits such as poor posture or
reinforcing patterns of exercise/sedentary behaviors, which
strengthen misalignment.

The goal of this workshop is to provide participants the tools to
experience long-term transformation through understanding of the
relationship between the pelvic and shoulder girdles to the spine.
Participants will gain awareness of how to physically translate this
information through the strengthening and release of muscle and
fascia in their own bodies and practice.

This workshop will include:

  • A basic introduction of functional anatomy & physiology
  • Techniques for self-care including myo-fascial release and postures to release your back and the surrounding supportive muscle and joint groups
  • Yoga postures and other exercises to strengthen and stabilize
  • Discussion and troubleshooting
  • Mindfulness and breathing techniques to support spinal health
  • Be prepared to move, taking notes welcomed and encouraged

* Open to anyone who desires to increase their understanding of their own
anatomy and improve their back health. This workshop is not suitable for those
with severe, acute back pain.

Connecting the Limbs of Yoga

FRI Date: 10/20/2017 - 10/20/2017 From: 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm

In our 200 hour training we learn of the 8 fold path of yoga consists of yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi. We learn intellectually that all of these limbs are very much integrated, but for the sake of convenience they are often deconstructed as independent components. This course will explore how pranayama (breath control) and dhyana (meditation) independently function and how when all of the limbs merge together to support and create the Yoga of devotion (bhakti).

Come prepared to learn how to practice and how to teach various pranayama and meditation techniques. We will explore how asana can support pranayama and meditation and how pranayama and meditation can support asana.

It is the same with Yoga. As all the parts put together become a tree, so all the 8 stages put together form Yoga.” - B.K.S. Iyengar

In this workshop, we will be exploring what really happens to our bodies during the normal aging process. We will look at the anatomical and physiological changes that are occurring in the 50+ age group and how best to support these changes within our yoga practice. The information discussed will be supported with current evidence- based studies from both medical and yoga literature.

Topics addressed will include how the body normally ages; discussion on common medical conditions; how to design an appropriate and safe yoga class for special populations such as osteoporosis, arthritis, balance issues, joint replacements; and the use of mudra and pranayama practices to support healthy aging.

This workshop will be interactive with several group practices lead by the instructor focusing on class design for healthy aging yoga. Participants will also have the opportunity to work in groups on case studies to help facilitate the learning process.

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of how to design and modify their yoga classes/own practices to best utilize yoga for healthy aging and to work with special senior populations.

Yoga for Healthy Aging

SUN Date: 11/05/2017 - 11/05/2017 From: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm

Crystals have long been used in meditation and healing due to the properties that they contain. They can serve as visual reminders of the intentions that we set. The crystals in this workshop have been chosen for their ability to inspire creativity, ground energy to allow ideas and intentions to come to fruition, and aid in connecting our higher consciousness.

In this workshop, you will receive an introduction to working with crystals and minerals, learn more about the crystals chosen specifically for this workshop, work to infuse your intentions into the crystals that you receive, and be guided through a meditation practice.
