Standing in Your Own Power: An Empowerment Workshop

WED Date: 09/26/2018 - 09/26/2018 From: 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Empowerment is the process of enhancing the capacity of individuals or groups to make choices and to transform those choices into desired actions and outcomes. -Gladys Shumbambiri

We may have first hand experience with being IN power on our yoga mats as far as physicality is concerned. But, what does it mean to be EMPOWERED? Empowerment is tapping into the well of internal stamina and knowledge in order to make change. While we may initially think of the worlds most influential leaders as marks of what it means to be empowered, true empowerment starts small.

In this workshop, we will explore practical (read: easy to do!) empowerment practices that you can integrate into your yoga practice and into your life. Learn to recognize and harness your own power in order to step forward with strength. This workshop will include discussion, meditation, and a physical practice appropriate for all levels.

These workshop hours count towards the anatomy module of the 300 hour teacher training program.

The Art of Assisting

FRI Date: 11/30/2018 - 11/30/2018 From: 5:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Yoga teachers spend countless hours curating and perfecting how to verbally teach a yoga class. Physical touch in the form of hands on yoga assists can help build awareness, ensure ideal alignment, and can facilitate trust and connection between yoga teachers and students. • Basic skeletal anatomy
  • How to assist confidently, safely and effectively
  • Seamlessly apply assists during your flows
  • How to create trust with your students in order for them to find new potential in poses
  • Understand how to use lines of energy to create powerful assists
  • Learn corrective, supportive, deepening and directional assist for a wide range of poses
  • Explore how different lineages of yoga utilize assists and adjustments
  • Expect ample time to bolster your confidence with continual practical application of assists

Holy Roller

FRI Date: 03/29/2019 - 03/29/2019 From: 8:22 am - 8:22 am

In an asana practice, the physical work is that of activating muscle and soft tissue. We use the shapes to train, explore, engage, even ‘stretch’ the body. This is an important element of the practice and a part of that healing. There is beautiful and valuable work in there; a potential for growth and a possibility to be and do more. However as thoughtful and attentive as we may be in movement, there are still patterns, habits, old beliefs and practices held tight in the tissue under the skin.

The Holy Roller class is a way to bring the therapeutic practice of Self Myofascial Release (SMR) to our yoga mat and practice. Simply defined, SMR is a method of bodywork through which tools are used to develop greater ranges of motion and mobility throughout the entire physical form. The effects of this technique are translated through the muscle fiber, the connective tissues surrounding and investing the muscle, nerve, CNS (central nervous system) and even skin and adipose tissue.

$350.00 for the entire weekend.

This training includes a 1hr 45min Holy Roller public practice as part of the 25hour training.

Core and Pelvic Floor

FRI Date: 04/05/2019 - 04/05/2019 From: 8:22 am - 8:22 am

To arrive at understanding from being one’s true self is called nature. To arrive at
being one’s true self from understanding is called culture. –Confucius

Profound insight into ourselves comes to us through both nature and culture. We
arrive at a cognitive understanding because of an experience we have physically.
We know our deep beliefs when in contrast or conflict to others or when we see
ourselves clearly mirrored in others.
This weekend is about putting many of those puzzle pieces together.
We will explore anatomy and exercises of/for the pelvis and core. As we integrate
the information we will see how they play out differently in each body because our
personal histories and experiences differ. In contrast, we will study and discuss
yoga history and philosophies as a way to come to a deeper understanding of who
we, as individual embodied beings, are in the world and in our own bodies.
As all of these pieces, perspectives, and paths come together we create an incredibly
rich and diverse experience with ourselves and in relationship to others.

$350.00 for the entire weekend.

Connecting the Limbs of Yoga

MON Date: 07/01/2019 - 07/01/2019 From: 8:22 am - 8:22 am

In our 200 hour training we learn of the 8 fold path of yoga consists of yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi. We learn intellectually that all of these limbs are very much integrated, but for the sake of convenience they are often deconstructed as independent components. This course will explore how pranayama (breath control) and dhyana (meditation) independently function and how when all of the limbs merge together to support and create the Yoga of devotion (bhakti).

Come prepared to learn how to practice and how to teach various pranayama and meditation techniques. We will explore how asana can support pranayama and meditation and how pranayama and meditation can support asana.

“A tree has roots, a trunk, branches, leaves, bark, sap, flowers, and fruits. Each one of these components has a separate identity, but each component cannot by itself become a tree. It is the same with Yoga. As all the parts put together become a tree, so all the 8 stages put together form Yoga.” - B.K.S. Iyengar
