A Special Winter Solstice Practice

Delve deeper into some of the most commonly seen yoga postures by exploring anatomy on both the physical and energetic levels. Join Laurie Riggins and Marsha Pappas for a weekend of deconstructing essential beginning poses.

Throughout this weekend, Laurie Riggins will guide you through the break down of the functional anatomy of poses, investigating what is happening anatomically to allow for stability, strengthening and stretching. Revisit major muscles, planes of movement, and common anatomical principles and then begin t oapply this knowledge experientially to fine tune your teaching skills by further exploring the actions occurring in some of the most common postures.

With Marsha Pappas, discuss how the energetic anatomy, psychology, and healing practices can be explored in and beyond the poses. By investigating the chakras, you will not only discuss the physical implications of the chakras, but also understand the deeper connections of the entire chakra system.

In this course you will learn to read and write the Sanskrit alphabet, properly pronounce yoga postures, sing sacred mantras and read texts with precision.  The name Sanskrit means "sanctified", "refined" and "consecrated".  It has has been regarded as the 'high' language and is the classical language of India.  Spend the weekend finding familiarity with this ancient language.

Sunday am - review, sibilants and kirtan

Michael Johnson the co-founder of Clearlight Yoga and Ösel has been a teacher and trainer for over a decade.  His aim is to integrate the traditional practices of kirtan, ujjayi breathing, and meditation with the insights of Neuroscience and Positive Psychology.

"To me yoga is not just what I do for an hour on a mat, rather it informs what I do all day and night.
